PROGRAMMING

POWERPLAY invites the viewer to question the value system of power and how it is interpreted within the American psyche. The exhibition confronts the dualities between natural and man-made energy, as well as being a part of a global community versus an ethnocentric one. The themes explored are alternative energy, science, space exploration, food, holistic practices, technology, spirituality, sexuality, wealth, beauty, ritual and human interaction.  POWERPLAY is a sculpture of experiences curated by Molly Morgan Weiss and The City Firm.

Xithinix Pangea is a performative outdoor sculpture by Matt Stone in collaboration with Go! Push Pops. Clad in scraps of Stone’s astro-psychedelic aesthetic, the neo-tribal clan of three will engage in ritualistic behaviors with paint blasters around a wooden structure as ‘Totem.’ From primal impulse to futuristic galactica, Xithinix Pangea speaks to notions of territory, belonging and clan within the collective psychic  terrain of a ‘New Age’ artist economy. The performance will conclude with a music set by the thrash core ensemble Prayer Town inside of Matt Stone’s classroom sculpture installation. http://mattstoneart.com/  http://gopushpops.blogspot.com/ http://www.myspace.com/prayertownmusic

4pm | Main Field | Joy Tomasko | Words, Words, Words

Words, Words, Words, twists dance, text and living sculpture into an interactive piece that will invite the audience to get caught up in and unravel the experience. The performer will guide the movement as she winds and speaks amidst unspooling string across the grounds of Hayground School. The writer will hang fragmented dialogue cards from the string, arranging and rearranging order, to create and destroy story, inspired by interviews with participants. The audience will play between the roles of dancer, actor, writer, observer and muse. http://joytomasko.com/

Beth Fiore’s work is constructed out of painted wood, rope and clay which has been fashioned into necklaces made of silk string. There will also be a carriage strung by magnetic fishing wire attached to either end of one side of the pool. There with the use of magnets the player tries to reign in their prize- which they can keep if the carriage does not fall, the game is a test of balance and focus. http://bethfiore.wordpress.com/

12-8pm | Hayden Fowler | Classroom | Video Projection

Hayden Fowler’s hedonistic environments numb our senses and challenge the art-historical notion of the Gaze in a post-apocalyptic dimension. Void of any timeline, Fowler’s hermetic world decontextualizes art-historical imagery and ideas within a Sci-Fi narrative. www.haydenfowler.net
